GTA V? Red Dead Redemption II? EA FC 24? Or other high-quality games, play smoothly on the consoles below. Here’s a complete list:

1. Asus ROG Ally

Asus can be said to be the brand that popularized Windows-based handheld gaming consoles on the global market, and the ROG Ally is its first product. This console is also the first device powered by AMD Ryzen Z1 and Ryzen Z1 Extreme.

Its specifications were high (at that time). The Asus ROG Ally has a 7-inch LCD screen with a Full HD resolution with a wide 16:9 aspect ratio, and already supports a 120Hz refresh rate and 500 nits of brightness.

The Asus ROG Ally is also powered by 16 GB of dual-channel LPDDR5 RAM and a 512 GB NVMe M.2 Gen 4 SSD storage. Unfortunately, its battery is only 40Wh, which is the biggest drawback of the Asus ROG Ally.

From our testing, the Asus ROG Ally can only last for 60 minutes playing games without a power cable. It is the battery sector that Asus improved on the ROG Ally X.

2. Asus ROG Ally X

Asus made many improvements to the ROG Ally X compared to the previous series. These improvements are based on feedback from users, including reviewers who have tried the first-generation Asus ROG Ally.

The battery is the biggest improvement. The Asus ROG Ally X is supported by an 80 Wh battery, or twice as large as before. In addition, the RAM and storage capacity have also been increased to 24 GB and 1 TB.

Specifically for storage, it uses M.2 2280 PCIe Gen4 SSD which is easier to remove and install to add capacity.

The rest is actually the same, such as screen size and processor type as with the Asus ROG Ally. At most, only the cooling system is made more maximal and efficient, reducing overheating that occurred in the previous series.

3. Lenovo Legion Go

Next from Lenovo is the Legion Go. This device is also powered by the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor, a chipset designed specifically for handheld gaming consoles.

The Lenovo Legion Go comes with a larger screen than the Asus ROG Ally or ROG Ally X, at 8.8 inches. The panel is LCD with QHD+ resolution and support for a 144Hz refresh rate.

The amount of RAM is quite large, 16 GB LPDDR5X paired with up to 1 TB of PCIe Gen4 SSD and a microSD slot that supports up to 2 TB of additional storage.

But, Lenovo only provides a 49.2 Wh battery for the Legion Go. Automatically, the shortcomings of this console are more or less the same as the first-generation ROG Ally, very short playing time without the support of electricity.

4. Ayaneo Geek

Ayaneo Geek is the next handheld gaming console you can buy. This device is quite bulky, weighing 680 grams.

There are pros and cons to this console. The advantage is that the Ayaneo Geek is powered by an AMD processor that is commonly used in laptops, namely the AMD Ryzen 7 6800U. A processor that usually supports high-end ultrabooks, is paired with 16 GB LPDDR5 RAM with 512 GB SSD PCIe 3.0 M.2 storage.

But the downside is that the Ayaneo Geek offers very ordinary visualization. The screen has a lower resolution without high refresh rate support.

The screen size is 7 inches, but the resolution is HD (1280 x 800 pixels) with a refresh rate of only 60Hz. Meanwhile, its competitors already support up to 144Hz.

5. MSI Claw

If most of the consoles we mentioned use AMD, the MSI Claw is actually powered by the latest Intel processor. The MSI Claw has several processor variants, the highest version is the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H.

Its screen capabilities are more or less the same as competing products. A 7-inch LCD with Full HD resolution, and already supports a refresh rate of up to 120Hz and a screen brightness level of 500 nits.

The kitchen runway is even more ferocious thanks to up to 16 GB of RAM with 1 TB of PCIe M.2 SSD storage that can be added via microSD. For power, there is a 53 Wh battery that (supposedly) can last up to 2 hours of gaming.

6. Acer Nitro Blaze 7

Last but not least, the Acer Nitro Blaze 7 which was introduced by Acer at the IFA 2024 event in Berlin, Germany. Acer’s first device in this segment, but it managed to impress.

The Acer Nitro Blaze 7 can be a serious competitor to the Asus ROG Ally X or Lenovo Legion Go. From its specifications alone, it is already high, playing high-end PC games should be smooth.

This console has a 7-inch LCD screen with a Full HD resolution (1.920 x 1.080 pixels) that supports a 144Hz refresh rate and a brightness level of 500 nits.

The kitchen runway uses the AMD Ryzen 7 8840HS with AMD Ryzen AI technology, then 16 GB LPDDR5X RAM, M.2 NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD storage up to 2 TB, but the battery is only 50 Wh.

Except for the Acer Nitro Blaze 7, the Windows-based handheld consoles above are already available on the market. Acer Nitro Blaze 7 will be announced later by Acer globally.
